Stonington High School Interact Club Food Packaging Project

March 2017

In March 2017 Mystic Rotarians joined SHS Interact Club members packing meals for Stop Hunger Now.

60 SHS Interactors cooperated with a dozen East Lyme High School Interactors in the packing.

The Rotary Club of Mystic is very proud of the SHS Interactors' initiative, creativity and energy. These students are already stepping up as leaders in their community.

Below are two Third graders receiving their new 2015 Dictionaries that were donated to all the third graders in town. The children really appreciate having their "own" dictionary to consult as they learn new words and their meanings. Each book has a book plate inside the front cover which dedicates the book to one of our "guest speakers" that spoke to us during the year.

Rotary Club of Mystic Honors William "Bill" Hermann for 50 Years of Rotary Membership and Service to the Mystic Community

Mystic, CT, August 23, 2010:  The Rotary Club of Mystic recently honored William "Bill" Hermann for 50 years of membership in the Rotary Club of Mystic and for his leadership in community service.   In attendance were Rotary District Governor Julianne Reppenhagen. Additional honored guests were Mr. Hermann's wife of 55 years, June, and their daughter Andrien Malley of Sebastopol, CA.

An active residential and light commercial architect with an office in downtown Mystic until his retirement at the age of 79, Bill designed many local buildings including the Seaman's Inne.   Early in his career Bill became very active with projects to improve and revitalize downtown Mystic.  He served as President of the Mystic Chamber of Commerce in 1971 and as President of All Souls Unitarian/Universalist Church and was president of the Rotary Club of Mystic from 1967 - 1968.   Bill also served on the Board of Directors of the Mystic Community Center in 1968 and again from 1971-1980.   From 1983-1984, he was on the Board of the Mystic Depot and from 1985-1995, he served on the Board of the Mashantucket Land Trust/Avalonia Land Conservancy.   Bill also served on the Board of the CT Health Association during the 70's and 80's.    From the late 80's to 2010, he served on the AIA Connecticut Community Affairs Commission; as President of the Building Code Board of Appeals.  Bill held the position of Rotary Club of Mystic historian during the years of 1999 - 2010.

Bill Hermann was presented a Certificate of Merit for his 50 years of service by Rotary Club of Mystic President Nancy MacMillan.   MacMillan stated, "It is an honor to celebrate such a remarkable event as a 50th anniversary in Rotary.  Bill has fulfilled the Rotary motto of "Service Above Self" and has been an example of living the Rotary "Four Way Test" of:  Is it the TRUTH?; Is it FAIR to all concerned?; Will it build GOOD WILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? And Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?  Not only has Bill been a shining example within the Rotary Club of Mystic, we also honor him for all his fine work in the community.
