Presenting the award is Ginny Bainbridge (far right), outgoing President of the GrowHope Foundation and Past President of the Mystic Rotary Club.
Ginny's comments follow:
As I step down as President of GrowHope Foundation, I am very pleased to be able to recognize the support of the Rotary Club of Mystic, CT, with the Community Service Award.
I was a member of Mystic from 1997 through 2017, when I moved to West Virginia. During those years I shared in the fellowship of wonderful, dedicated people and, I hope, made positive contributions to the Club.
Rotary is an international service organization of business and professional people. Each club supports projects in its local community and most also seek out ways to assist in international efforts. Disaster relief, clean water, sanitation, health, education, and peace are some of the focus areas.
The Rotary Club of Mystic has donated funds for the following projects in Liberia:
2011 - Funds to support an HIV-AIDS community education program.
2012- Clean water well with a hand pump at an orphanage.
2013 - Computers and software for a resource room at the orphanage school.
2014 - A District Managed Grant to train over 200 Liberians in Alternates to Violence (AVP). This training prepared 16 Liberians with the skills to be AVP facilitators and continue the training of more people.
2015 - After the ebola epidemic, 68 of the children in the West Point slum who lost one or both parents were accepted into the West Point school. Rotary's support helped by providing additional food and school uniforms for these children.
2016 - Support for a child who had graduated from the West Point school to attend high school.

Mystic Rotary Supports Zambian Student
Yanah Phiri is a 12th year student at the Chikumbuso school in Zambia, shown here when he met John Bradshaw, International Services Committee Chair, in March of 2017. The Mystic Club has provided financial support for Yanah for the last several years. Our sponsorship covers all his educational costs, as well as providing a monthly food ration for his family. We're all very proud of Yanah's educational accomplishments.
